Developed in the 1830s, Avondale is one of Cincinnati’s original bedroom communities, just 10 minutes from downtown.
Avondale offers a variety of spacious one- and two-family homes from sturdy brick houses to beautiful Gothic Tudors, some with Rookwood tile work from the early part of the 20th century. Many of the older homes have been divided into apartments as family size, income, and living styles have changed over the years. Avondale is home to the Cincinnati Zoo, which attracts more than one million visitors annually; and the Tri-State’s largest cluster of hospitals, including the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and a biomedical research center.
Avondale is bordered by the City of St. Bernard and North Avondale on the north, by Evanston and Walnut Hills on the east, by Walnut Hills on the south, and by Clifton and Corryville on the west. Avondale includes portions of five census tracts (34, 66, 67, 68, and 69) contained in the Empowerment Zone.
